Epidemic

In this Higher Order/Critical Thinking Unit, 5th grade TAG students will be faced with a public health problem. Students will have to examine all of the evidence, make recommendations to save the lives of the people who have contracted the illness, determine the most probable source, and establish guidelines to ensure the epidemic will not spread. Students will need to evaluate competing ideas as they grapple with problems that do not have one clear-cut solution.
Essential Questions
•What are viruses and bacteria and how do they affect humans?
•How can a virus spread around the world?
•How are symptoms used to make a diagnosis?
•How do government organizations and individual citizens protect themselves from public health disasters?
